The most common question we get is “how much does an Earthship cost?”. My response was always the same, “that is a trick question.” In construction there are three things Good, Fast, and Cheap, you can only have two. Our goal with Foxhole is to have good and cheap, but that means slow or more precisely lots of volunteer manpower to keep the expenses down.
This also means a lot more prep work to find salvaged materials and adjust plans to work with materials that are available rather than buying the exact thing the plan might have called for. It also means getting to be involved with the amazing creative process of taking waste and turning it into resources. To me this is fine art, working within limits to design and build a truly amazing piece of art. Art of this magnitude is rarely created alone it is, rather the work of a community, each bringing the resources they have to the game. We hope to break ground on our next two Foxhole Builds this fall. We have much to do before then, gathering tools, materials and support to make sure it works. If any of you want to be part of this dream becoming reality I would be honored to have you as part of our Big Give team this summer. It will be a lot of work, and it will be amazing.
